Cysteamine Cream : Proof of Efficacy

  • Cysteamine Hydrochloride is a thiolic molecule which is naturally produced in the human body.
  • The skin whitening effect of Cysteamine Hydrochloride was first discovered around 50 years ago.
  • Data is available which indicates that Cysteamine Hydrochloride and of of its derivatives (methyl mercaptoethylamine hydrochloride) are more powerful than hydroquinone.
  • The mechanism of action of Cysteamine Hydrochloride is not yet fully understood:
  1. The molecule may act as an inhibitor  of peroxidase and tyrosinase and at the same time quench dopaquinone and metal ions essential for the synthesis of pigment (melanin).
  2. The property of Cysteamine Hydrochloride to reduce disulfur bonds indicates that this agent might act to increase the intracellular  glutathione and perhaps cysteine levels.
  • Cysteamine Hydrochloride has potent antioxidant properties.
